Are you a 110%?
October 31, 2008
The people that I really honour and respect in life are people that work hard, or work with a desire to give 110%. They want to be the very best that they can be.
My husband Jai was teaching a young boy the other day on the violin. However, he wasn’t playing up to his normal standard.
Jai asked: “Have you practiced this week?”
There was a moments pause and the student answered: “Not really”
Jai replied: “Is that a not really, or a yes?”
The student replied: “No, not much”
“You are a good player, and for someone your age you are way ahead the others. But with your talent there comes a choice. If you want to be “great!” you need to make a decision.”
“If you want to be the best in the world, you have to put in the time. But, only you can decide how many hours of practise that means. But if you want to be just “good”, well that’s okay too, but its what you want. It’s all about the choice you make today”
It’s like the analogy of the human eye. If you cover it with a patch for too long, it will stop working and will go blind. Why? Because it wasn’t used to it’s potential.
“With music you need a reason to be playing. To keep you’re passion alive. If you want to be the best in the world, then you need to put a plan in place to achieve that. If you want to learn a certain piece of music, you need to decide when you’ll be playing it. Or if you just want to play just because, than the steps put in place needs to be different again”
What’s the choice?
The reason?
The purpose?
The goal?
2. It’s the books that you read
3. It’s the decisions you make.
4. And the action you take.
We want to buy our first investment property next year. To do this we need to start educating ourselves, start talking to people with knowledge and wisdom, read and study the right materials, find the property we want to buy and then take action.
With life there comes a choice, with decisions there comes responsibility, with action there comes a destination….
Hey Sarah
The wisdom that both you and Jai share in this article is inspiring. I look forward to continuing to live great lives alongside you both in the years to come.
Be blessed!
Peter
